Nearly a year ago today, I graduated with a degree in Arts in Psychology. Before graduating, I had already researched recruitment roles and discovered AGSI among other corporations. Curious and interested, I applied online to see where it might lead. 

Despite having no formal experience in the industry, AGSI saw potential in me, scheduled interviews, and gave me a chance to prove myself. I joined AGSI because they recognized my potential and were willing to help me develop my skills to their fullest.
Since starting, I’ve significantly improved my interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills. I’ve made meaningful contributions to the team and am eager to continue building on this progress. This experience has been invaluable, both professionally and personally, as I’ve made good friends, and meaningful acquaintances, and participated in social events. 

Within a year at AGSI, I was given the opportunity to handle my own client as a Talent Sourcer, primarily recruiting for operational services in schools. Initially, working directly with a client was a huge pressure, and it still is today. As someone with little experience, I faced many scenarios where things could go wrong or just right. Fortunately, I have a supportive team that helped me gain confidence in our work. With the success of managing the account, I was promoted to a full-time recruiter by the client and later received an internal promotion to Senior Recruiter.

As someone passionate about helping communities, AGSI has helped me understand what it truly means to care for others. We find meaning in our work because it reflects our values and beliefs, fostering a supportive environment where we feel empowered to uphold shared beliefs in our daily interactions with society.

In the next year, I aim to pursue professional certifications and expand my professional network. Networking in this industry opens doors to new opportunities and insights. My position at AGSI enhances my credibility and expertise, helping me become proficient in my work. As my career progresses, I hope to volunteer, mentor aspiring recruiters, or participate in industry associations to give back to the community and contribute to its growth.

There are three most valuable things I have learned in life through working at AGSI

Embracing continuous learning. The recruitment industry is ever-changing, evolving rapidly with new technologies, trends, and best practices. Embracing learning curves enhances our skills and understanding of the business.

Being resilient and persistent. From a challenging start in recruitment, it’s important to learn how to bounce back from setbacks and persist in finding the right candidates for roles.

Seeking feedback and reflecting on it. Asking for feedback and reflecting on experiences helps identify areas for growth and development.
